There are fine dining restaurants, and then there are experiences that feel like stepping back into another era. Falak, the signature Indian restaurant at The Leela Bhartiya City, Kannuru, belongs to the latter. With Masterchef Farman Ali at the helm, the restaurant pays tribute to the pre-partition culinary traditions of Awadh, Old Delhi, Amritsar, and Multan, bringing to life the forgotten stories of Mughlai kitchens.
👑 The Concept
Masterchef Farman Ali is a custodian of Awadhi and North-West Frontier cuisine, and at Falak, his menu celebrates slow-cooked royal delicacies inspired by pre-partition India. Think rich marinades, delicate spice blends, and hours (sometimes days) of patient cooking — a philosophy that runs through every dish.
🍢 The Starters
Our preview began with a tandoor platter that set the tone:
Murgh-e-Firdause – inspired by the legendary Murgh Chutney Tikka of Delhi and Lucknow.
Gosht Dil Pasand Seekh Kebab – melt-in-your-mouth lamb, the highlight of the platter.
Macchli Tikka & Sunehri Jheenga – delicate seafood kissed by the tandoor.
Gosht Barrah Kebab – smoky, rich, and indulgent.
Vegetarians weren’t left behind, with options like Tikki Laziz, Zaitooni Paneer Tikka, and Tandoor Ke Phool that celebrated the same finesse.
🍲 The Mains
The main course was nothing short of regal:
Murgh Kashmiri – fragrant and creamy.
Saag Gosht – hearty, with perfectly cooked lamb.
Macchi Masaledaar – bold and flavourful.
Dal-e-Falak – the crown jewel, 24-hour slow-cooked, velvety, and deeply comforting.
Dal Tadka – a familiar counterpart, balancing the richness of the spread.
Each dish reminded us that patience and time are at the heart of Mughlai cooking.
🌟 Being Bengaluru Take
Falak isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a culinary archive of recipes that could have been lost to time. With its royal Mughlai focus, thoughtful execution, and Chef Farman’s passion for detail, dining here feels less like ticking off a menu and more like savouring history, one plate at a time.
